At the heart of the Northern Alps lies the source of an all natural, perfectly pure water - evian. It all starts with rain and melting snow on the peaks of the Northern Alps, where each drop of evian water starts its 15+ year journey through layers of glacial sand that ends at evian's protected source on the shores of Lake Geneva. Through this process, the water is filtered naturally, without chemicals, giving evian the purity, mineral content, and taste that nature intended. Every day, samples are taken at over 20 different points between the protected catchment areas and the on-site bottling plant to ensure consistent quality.
In 1789, the Marquis de Lessert, discovered the Cachat Spring, evian's source, in the small town of evian-les-Bains on Lake Geneva. After spending several days drinking from the spring, the nobleman believed that the water aided in passing his kidney stones. News of the event soon spread and crowds gathered to sample the water to ease ailments. By 1878, the Dukes of Savoy issued the first bottling authorization for evian Natural Spring Water.
Today, evian is available in over 120 countries throughout the world and is still bottled exclusively at its protected natural spring source in Evian-les-Bains. The water itself never changes, perfect and timeless.

Flint Michigan....bottled water
The contamination is linked to Flint's decision — under the oversight of a city manager appointed by Snyder — to save money by taking tap water from the Flint River. Soon after the April 2014 switch, some of the city's 100,000 residents began complaining about the taste, smell and appearance of the water. Tests later showed the river water lacked proper treatment, causing lead to leach from old pipes. Local children have shown elevated levels of lead in their blood, a condition that can cause permanent brain damage.
Major players in the bottled water industry have teamed up to provide help. Wal-Mart, Coca Cola, Pepsico and Nestles have sent a combined total of 176 truckloads of water to Flint Michigan. 6.5 million bottles, which is enough to meet the needs of more than 10,000 children for one year.
And Another? Ohio Town With Possible Lead Poisoning
Residents in the rural area of about 8,100 people near Youngstown are demanding to know why they were kept in the dark for months. Children are being tested for lead poisoning. Schools have been closed for three straight days. Bottled water is being passed out, and state regulators are calling for a criminal investigation of the water plant manager.

Water Edging Out Soda
Bottled water is a $13 billion business of which Coca-Cola and PepsiCo currently only have a 13% volume share in the US. (Nestle is far and away the leader, with almost half of the market.) There is major room for growth in this area, and companies best known for soda are trying to showcase a healthier and more diverse array of beverages. Water is currently one of the hottest beverages in the nonalcoholic-drink market, with major brands like Nestle’s Poland Spring, Coca-Cola’s Dasani, and PepsiCo’s Aquafina’s volumes growing from 7% to 9% in 2014. For comparison, Coke and Pepsi's volumes both fell close to 3% in the same time period. Looking for new channels, Coke, Pepsi, and Nestlé's will be debuting sparkling versions, to increase their choices. (Numbers represented here do not address the "Fine Water" business, although that continues to grow as well....Thank goodness)
Bottled Water Tax Fails to Qualify
Proponents of a ballot initiative that would have imposed a tax on bottled water, as well as require bottled water to have a label that declared the product “not drought friendly,” failed to collect the needed signatures to have this issue on the November 2016 California election ballot.

Smartwater Sparkling, a new addition
Reported by Beverage Industry, readers recently selected their choice for December's NEW beverage.
Smartwater sparkling emerged as the winner. Coca Cola launched the new brand just two months ago, although they are rolling out the brand in only a few select cities to begin, New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.
Voss, Sells Majority Stake
In an effort to globalize sales, and specifically, in China, the Reignwood Group, the parent company to Red Bull China, has acquired a majority stake in Voss. According to Jack Belsito, Voss CEO, ...they were looking for an investment which brought more than money to the table. Reignwood brings a significant selling and distribution infrastructure in China, and offers a vision of creating a global health and wellness beverage company.
Other Voss News; Flavored Water?
Voss Water will make an official launch into the flavored water space by adding Lemon Cucumber, and Tangerine Lemongrass. The flavors were introduced at the recent NACS (National Association of Convenience Stores) show and will be introduced this April. The flavored water will be available in glass only.
